Liton stresses Tigers still need to learn much more
Desk News: The old tune of “learning from defeat” in Bangladesh cricket was played once again, this time by captain Liton Das after the Tigers were humbled by seven wickets in Wednesday’s third and final Twenty20 international to give hosts United Arab Emirates a historic series win.
In the recent and distant past, Bangladesh cricketers have been known to say “learning from experience” following defeats, and Liton was no different as the UAE chased down the Tigers’ 162/9 with five balls to spare.
This is another low for the Bangladesh T20 side after the shocking 2-1 series loss to another Associate side, the USA, in May last year.
“Definitely, it's not up to the mark when you come here always thinking to win the game, but still, this is part of life. And when you play cricket, sometimes the opposition plays really well. Credit goes to them also. We have to learn, learn more, and execute in the match,” said Liton during the presentation ceremony.
Despite opener Tanzid Hasan Tamim’s brisk 18-ball 40, the men in red and green were up against it at 84/8 after once again being asked to take first guard for the third time in succession this series.
Wicketkeeper-batter Jaker Ali Anik (41) lent respectability to the total before late cameos from tailenders Hasan Mahmud (26*) and Shoriful Islam (16) pushed the tourists to a fighting score.
“We made a couple of mistakes in batting. I feel that this is not up to the mark of what we want on this surface and this condition, and definitely the last three games, we bowled second, and the dew is the main factor,” said Liton.
The UAE coasted home thanks to an unbroken 87-run stand between Alishan Sharafu (68) and Asif Khan (41).
“They played really well. They bowled well, and that's why we couldn't score that much. But in batting, they (got) favor a little bit (from) dew, and credit goes to them. They didn’t panic that much,” said a grim Liton before concluding with the positives: “Definitely Parvez (Hossain) Emon and Tanzid Tamim, a couple of games, (Towhid) Hridoy and Jaker batted really well. A couple of guys bowled really well.”
The Tigers will now have to dust themselves off quickly and switch focus to the away T20I series against Pakistan.
