Dhaka: The Indian Border Security Force (BSF) has pushed in 11 individuals, including women and children, through two separate border points in Boda upazila of Panchagarh.
Members of the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) have detained them, confirmed acting commander of the Nilphamari-56 BGB Battalion, Riyad Murshed on Saturday afternoon.
According to BGB, the BSF pushed in the individuals through the Malkadanga area of Boroshoshi union and the Danakata border of Kajoldighi-Kaligonj union in Boda upazila.
All those detained are Bangladeshi nationals, BGB confirmed.
Indian police have been arresting Bangladeshi citizens who have been living in various Indian states for a long time and handing them over to the BSF. These 11 individuals were pushed in through the Malkadanga and Danakata borders of Panchagarh's Boda upazila.
Locals spotted them wandering in the border areas and informed the nearby BGB camp, leading to their detention.
Upon interrogation, the detainees said they had been living in India for a long time. On May 2, Indian police arrested them from Bombay.
Until Saturday, they were held in police custody and then flown along with 125 other Bangladeshi nationals to Bagdogra Airport in Siliguri.
Of them, 11 were pushed into Bangladesh via Panchagarh by BSF, according to sources. Later, BGB handed the detainees over to Boda police station.
Officer-in-charge (OC) of Boda police station, Azim Uddin, confirmed that legal proceedings are underway against the detainees for illegally crossing the border.
Meanwhile, BGB has strengthened patrols in the border areas in response to the push-in incident.
