Five workers injured as wall collapses at Chittagong Zoo

Dhaka: Five workers were injured when an under-construction wall at Chittagong Zoo collapsed in the Foy’s Lake area of the port city.

The incident took place around 11:30pm on Friday.

The injured were identified as Arman, 30, Hridoy, 20, Rakib, 19, Sohel, 26, and Roni Hawlader, 27.

Khan Khalilur Rahman, senior station officer of the Agrabad Fire Service, said: “Concrete was being poured on the roof at the main gate of Chittagong Zoo when the roof and an adjacent wall collapsed, injuring five workers. They were rescued and admitted to Chittagong Medical College Hospital (CMCH). The initial estimated loss from the incident is around Tk1 million.”

Dr Shahadat Hossain Suvo, deputy curator of Chittagong Zoo, said: “Around 11:30pm on Friday, a wall under construction collapsed, injuring five workers. They were rescued and sent to Chittagong Medical College Hospital (CMCH), where they received primary treatment. All the injured individuals were employed by a contractor.”
